Betty Ann (Dean) Monahan, of Hingham and formerly of South Weymouth, passed away peacefully on January 6th, 2021.

She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas L. Monahan, Jr.; loving mother of Thomas L. Monahan, III and his wife Sharon K. Marcil of Chevy Chase, MD; cherished “Nana” to Caroline Monahan, and Elizabeth Monahan; devoted sister to Norma Dean of Newburyport, MA and Eugene Dean and his wife Mary Dean of Newburyport, MA; devoted sister in law of the late Nancy Looney and her husband William Looney of South Weymouth, Jane Milano of Milton, and her late husband Vincent Milano, and the late Janet and Robert Tobin of West Roxbury. She was the also the proud aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Betty Ann was born in Newburyport, MA on October 21, 1938, the second daughter of Eugene J. Dean, Sr. and Lillian (Blair) Dean. She graduated from Newburyport High School and Boston College, class of 1960. A lifelong elementary educator, she taught in the Boston and Hingham public schools and at St. Francis Xavier school in South Weymouth, receiving many accolades for devotion to her students and teaching excellence.

In 1962, she married her college classmate, Thomas L. Monahan, Jr., and together they welcomed their son Tom, and their grandchildren Caroline and Elizabeth. Family was always a priority to her. She was a loving wife, daughter, niece, and sister; a loving and supportive mother and aunt, and a doting grandmother. She was deeply engaged in her family and instilled her love of, and commitment to, education, knowledge and reading into multiple generations of her family.

A person of great faith, Betty Ann was regularly active in parish life at St. Francis Xavier in South Weymouth.
