Bessie F. Morrissey

Bessie F. Morrissey (Chaggaris) of Hingham, formerly of North Quincy, earned her angels wings after a brief illness on June 13, 2013, at the age of 60.

Beloved wife of Brian S. Morrissey for 28 years.  Loving mother of Drew R.  and Matthew F. Morrissey both of Hingham.  Daughter of Panagiota Chaggaris of Norwell and the late Frederick Chaggaris.  Devoted sister of Georgia Clancy of Plymouth and William Chaggaris of Quincy.  Daughter in law of Lucinda Morrissey Ellard of Quincy.  Sister in Law of Richard and Mary Ann Morrissey of Braintree, Cindy and Greg Disotel of Lake Tahoe, CA and Diane and Anthony Campo of Milton.  Bessie was the aunt of James M. Clancy of Delray Beach, FL, Maura Clancy Forcier of Norwell, Michael Clancy of Plymouth, Joseph Campo of Milton and Corey Chaggaris of California. Great Aunt of Sofia, Jake and Anna Forcier of Norwell.  Niece of James C. Vranas of Braintree.  Cousin of Charles J. Vranas and his wife Kimberly of Braintree.

Bessie grew up with her sister Georgia and brother William on Tyler Street in North Quincy. Through the years she attended Parker Grade School, Atlantic Junior High School, and North Quincy High School, graduating in 1971. Bessie followed her vast artistic talents and attended Wilfred Beauty Academy for hair dressing in Boston. Upon graduating she worked at and managed hair salons in Quincy until proudly becoming co-owner of New-Wave Hair Salon in Wollaston. She was a creative force in hair design and an expert colorist there for 25 years before retiring. A 30-year resident of Hingham she had a strong devotion to her husband, sons, family, and friends; always being there for them in times of both joy and need. Bessie gained great pleasure in her family’s yearly vacations to Martha’s Vineyard, long walks with her faithful dog Sophie through the enchanting trails of Hingham’s Worlds End, working in her many floral gardens, long Sunday drives, and bike riding. She was a constant supporter of hers son Drew’s road races and Matthew’s skate boarding talents, always present to cheer them on and offer her creative advice. A true role model who always managed to inspire you, she was one of the most giving people you ever met. Bessie would openly share her heart as the biggest supporter of everyone’s dreams. Her life was framed by her sparkling green eyes, soft voice, warm smile, and caring touch, making her an unforgettable friend to all who knew her.
