Burke, Bernard J. of Quincy February 28, 2007. Devoted husband of the late Catherine (Casano) Burke. Beloved father of Bernadette Stentiford of Quincy. Loving brother of Patricia “Patsy” and Mary Burke both of So. Boston and the late Catherine Paterson, John and Joseph Burke. Cherished grandfather of Steven E. Jr., Michael J. and Joseph B. Stentiford of Quincy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON, Tuesday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church, Wollaston at 10 AM. Visiting hours Monday 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM. Burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bernard J. Burke to Disabled American Veterans, State House – Room 546, Boston, MA 02133. Bernie resided in Quincy for the past 51 years. Prior to that he lived in South Boston where he grew up. He served in the U.S. Army/Airforce during WWII. He toured in England and Scotland and was an aircraft mechanic. He was a member of the Mighty 8th Air Force Group and 92nd Bombardment Group. Bernie worked for the Fruit Growers Express in Chelsea as a Railroad Inspector for over 30 years, retiring in 1978. He was an Associate Member of the Brotherhood of Railway and Airline Clerks and a retired member of the Railway Clerks Political League. Prior to working at the railroad, Bernie worked for the Robert Bishop Waste company in Southie with his father. Bernie was a jack of all trades, he repaired and/or rebuilt everything including building a boat, a bob sled and a house in Amesbury. He enjoyed putting around the house and fixing any item that was in need of repair. He was a wonderful mechanic and was seen many times in his driveway replacing engines in his cars. He was a very generous man, always giving of himself and anything he had to his family and to the neighborhood.
