Bernard Francis Stearns

Bernard Francis Stearns, of Hingham, Massachusetts, passed away on March 18, 2023, at 93, with family by his side. He was born in Boston, MA, to Katherine & Morris Stearns. He and Margaret (Peggy) were married for 70 years when Peggy passed in 2020.

He was an Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion Post 120, and a devoted election poll worker.  After a long career as a master pressman for Halliday Lithograph, he and Peggy enjoyed years of travel throughout the United States and abroad without losing their love for Hingham and their home on Newbridge Street. He volunteered for the Hingham Conservation Commission and other civic groups and helped feed Veterans in the Boston Harbor area regularly.

Recently, Bernie resided at Sunrise of Cohasset, where he made new friends and enjoyed many activities: an avid reader interested in World War II and current events, he valued lively conversations.  The Stearns family appreciates all who serve the Sunrise residents and their families, with special thanks to the Plymouth Beacon Hospice Team.

He leaves behind their children: Linda, Bernard and (Tricia), Judy and (Paul), Robert and (Debra), Paul and (Denise), Nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The family will gather friends and family at a celebration of life service at Fort Hill Cemetery on May 6, 2023, at 11 a.m.  In place of flowers, please consider donating to the USO, an organization Bernie loved, or the Hingham Public Library.
