Bemard D. Fafel (Bernie), beloved father, grandfather, brother, and Companion, passed away on April 6, 2025, at the age of 81. Bom on October 23, 1943, Bernie grew up in Chelsea, Massachusetts, and later made his home in Dedham, Foxboro, Canton and most recently, Quincy, where he was a long - time resident.
Bernie leaves behind his devoted Companion, Eleanor O'Keefe, a remarkable woman who selflessly supported and cared for him throughout their 35 years together. He also leaves behind his six children who loved him dearly: David Fafel, husband of Julie: Steven Fafel, husband of Vicki; Kelly Wilkins. Wife of Gary, Keith Fafel, husband of Cindy; Kerrie Fafel, partner of Jeff Chase, and Michael Mello-Fafel, husband of Elaine.
He was also the proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy and pride for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Evelyn and Samuel Fafel, and his brother Leonard. Bernie is survived by his sister Arlene.
Bernie served in the Army National Guard before embarking on a dynamic and adventurous career. He thrived in sales and entrepreneurship, working as a manager at Radio Shack, a leading car manager and salesman at a number of local dealerships, a real-estate investor, a retail store owner, an insurance broker, and countless other ventures that reflected his willingness to take risks and try new things.
He was a constant learner, particularly around various forms of law and politics. He was passionate about boats, loved classic cars and car auctions, enjoyed sports, particularly the Red Sox and the Patriots. He spent as much time as possible being on and around the ocean, providing him a sense of peace and tranquility. He volunteered his time by serving in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for many years, as well as being a constable in the local Boston area communities. Above all Bernie loved his family. He taught his children and modeled the importance of expressing love and caring for one another.
Bernie's tenacity, humor, and dedication to his family will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday 4/14/2025 from 5-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Tuesday 4/15/2025 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
