Kelleher, Benjamin W., Jr. “Ben” of Braintree, formerly of Quincy and Florida died May 9, 2018.
Beloved husband of 70 years to Eunice Kelleher (Thorne) of Braintree. Loving father of Jean Mackey and her husband Robert of Quincy, Joan Conklin and her husband Mark of Dedham and Benjamin W. Kelleher, III and his wife Susan of FL. Devoted grandpa of Kelly, Dennis, Kevin, Christina, Brian, Melissa, Benjamin, Lauren, Jake, Julianna and Luke. Cherished great grandpa of Aiden, Owen, Maddie, William, Reese, Avery, Weston and Benjamin. Adored brother of the late Leo Kelleher. Brother in law of Myrtle Kelleher of Virginia. Caring uncle of Dennis Kelleher and Cathy Sarver both of Virginia.
Ben was born in Revere, MA and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1941. He was a WWII Navy Veteran who served as a Radarman on the U.S.S. Dale W. Peterson DE-337. Ben worked for the New England Telephone company as an equipment installer for many years. Affectionately known as the “Mayor of Beach Street”, Ben raised his family in Quincy where he was a member of the Quincy Knights of Columbus and the Quincy American Legion. Ben was a devout Catholic and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Ann’s Church in Quincy. He most recently was a resident at Grove Manor in Braintree after living in Venice, Florida for 10 years. Ben will be dearly remembered by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-5 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ben may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley Street, W. Bridgewater, MA 02379-1022.
