Longtime Hull resident Barry J. Haraden died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 3, 2007. He was 71 years old and fought a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer. Mr. Haraden was born in Portland, Maine, and grew up in Winthrop, Mass. He was a graduate of Bentley College, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany during the late 1950s. He married Hullonian Joanne Infusino in 1958 and the couple settled in Hull to raise their family. Mr. Haraden was active in civic life, serving the town as a member of the Hull Finance Committee and Insurance Study Committee for many years. He was co-chairman of the Hull Appreciation Day Committee, formed to raise money for disaster relief in the aftermath of the Blizzard of 1978. He also was involved with the Hull Boosters Club, the Hull Jaycees, Boy Scouts, the Holy Name Society, and was a lifetime member of the Hull Democratic Town Committee. Following his recent retirement from State Street Bank, Mr. Haraden was active with the “Spirit of State Street” volunteer organization of fellow retirees. Throughout his life, Mr. Haraden was known for his keen sense of humor and ability to make people laugh. He enjoyed traveling, playing with his eight grandchildren, and was a proud member of the Nantasket Beach morning walkers. In addition to his wife, Mr. Haraden is survived by three sons, Tim Haraden and his wife, Pierette, of Lithia, Fla.; Patrick Haraden and his wife, Michelle, of Norwell; and Christopher Haraden and his wife, Marilyn, of Hanover. He was the proud grandfather of Nick, Alex, and Van Haraden of Florida, Conor, Emily, and Olivia Haraden of Norwell, Matthew and Adam Haraden of Hanover. Mr. Haraden was the brother of Sheila Margotta of Hingham, Janet Macina of Nashua, N.H., and the late Marshall B. Haraden Jr. In accordance with Mr. Haraden’s wishes, there are no visiting hours. A Memorial Mass and celebration of his life will be conducted on Saturday, July 14 at 10 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Hull. A reception will follow at the Red Parrot Restaurant in Hull.
