On Sept. 16th, Barbara T. (Coughlin) Cunniff of N. Quincy passed peacefully to eternal life surrounded by several family members. Born in Boston in 1921, daughter of John Coughlin and Barbara (Cooke) Coughlin of Ireland. Loving wife of the late Joseph P. Cunniff, beloved mother of Gary J. and his wife Maria (Cataldo), Thomas P. and his wife Patrice (Clary). and William G. and his wife Mary Ellen (Cronin) all of Quincy, James M. and his wife Annie (Laures), and Jean M. and her husband Raymond Cassidy, all of Colorado. Her devotion and loving embraces will be ever missed by her 12 grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her brothers, Bartholomew Coughlin, John Coughlin, and Rev. Daniel Coughlin, and very close sister Mary (Coughlin) Hanley. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Barbara was a graduate of South Boston High School. Upon completing a business training program at Boston Clerical, she began work at the Boston Army Base during WWII, where she experienced the trepidation, sorrows and joys of the service men leaving and returning from war. Married for 47 years, she was devoted to motherhood, homemaking and instilling Christian values. She resided in N. Quincy and Sacred Heart Parish for fifty-two years. Barbara was a daily communicant at Sacred Heart Church, member of the Ladies Sodality, and an active supporter of many parish activities. She so loved her daily routine of morning Mass followed by “coffee with the girls” at a cafe nearby, where religion, politics and families were the order of the day. She followed this routine to the very end. Family and friends are invited to Keohane Funeral Home, 781 Hancock St., Quincy, MA 02170, visiting hours will be 4 PM to 8 PM on Monday, Sept. 20th, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 386 Hancock St., N. Quincy, MA 02171. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Sacred Heart Parish, 386 Hancock St., N. Quincy, MA 02171.
