Smith, Barbara Louisa (Tate) of Braintree, passed away on February 25, 2024. She was 83.
Born in Malden in 1940, she was the daughter of the late Wills and Phyllis Tate.
Barbara was a well respected Braintree educator for decades. She served as a physical education teacher, Math teacher and Guidance Counselor in the Title 1 program, and retired as an elementary school psychologist at Flaherty School. She was a BEA member, lifetime member of the Mass Teachers Association & the National Education Association and recipient of the Braintree teacher of the year for Norfolk County’s Annual Celebration.
Barbara enjoyed gardening, crafting and creating, sewing, going to the movies, lunching with friends, spending time with her grandchildren and most of all watching her children become the people they are today.
She will be remembered as a generous and practical soul who gladly shared her wisdom, wit, and wealth of knowledge and who changed the lives of countless children, families, and pets.
Loving mother to Phyllis Simonetta and her husband John of Weymouth and Robert “Bobby” Smith and his wife Merry of Holliston. Grandmother to Olivia, Cecilia, and Sammy. Sister to Carole Tate of Melrose and also Deborah Ring of Utah.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Saturday 9:30-11:30 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). Funeral service will be celebrated immediately following the visiting hours in the funeral home on Saturday at 11:30 AM.
