Barbara Spink (Casna) of Weymouth, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 26, 2023. She was 70 years old.
Born in Quincy she was the daughter of the late Charles and Joan Casna (Bertolami).
Barbara was, above all else, a selfless, loving, cheerful, and genuinely kind person. A supreme hostess and chef, she loved gathering family and friends in her home. She turned strangers into instant friends and loved all she met. A fighter through several difficult diagnoses, Barbara often thought first of how something would affect others before thinking about how it would affect herself.
She managed many retail stores (including clothing, lighting, and furniture) before successfully running her own interior design company focused on window treatments; she had a talent for understanding visual spaces and for thinking outside the box to find solutions that were simultaneously innovative and fueled by common sense.
But Barbara’s true calling was her work at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Weymouth. Her faith was boundless, and she was an active member of the parish—as one of the leaders in the marriage preparation program and a confirmation education teacher and, finally, as Coordinator of the Family Faith Discipleship, including the confirmation program at St Francis. She was awarded the 2022 Cheverus Award, conferred by the Archdiocese of Boston on laypeople who have served their parish and God’s people well over an extended period of time, often in a quiet and unassuming way. Giving young adults opportunities to learn and explore their faith brought her enormous joy.
Beloved wife of Donald J. Spink of Weymouth. Cherished mother of Matthew J. Spink and his wife Alexis of Madbury NH, Jessica J. Spink of Watertown, and Lauren A. Spink and her husband Michael Beautyman of Bainbridge Island WA. Grandmother of Aaron J. Spink of Madbury NH.
