Barbara J. (Ray) Dormady

QUINCY– Barbara J. (Ray) Dormady, of Quincy, a retired nursing assistant and coordinator for Big Brother Big Sister, died on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the Hancock Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 81. Barbara was born in Boston living in the city’s South End neighborhood. She lived in Dorchester for many years before moving to Quincy in 1965. She worked for many years as a nursing assistant at Milton Hospital. After retiring from the hospital, she worked for several years as a coordinator at the Holbrook office of Big Brother Big Sister. Barbara was a woman of faith, family and fun. She was powerfully devoted to her family and to the Infant of Prague but she still left room in her life for bingo, travelling, Foxwoods and reading on Wollaston Beach. She greatly appreciated her life and was thankful for the kindness showed her throughout it especially during the past few years. Barbara was the devoted wife of 62 years to Joseph L. “Leo” Dormady, the loving mother of Kathryn M. Fonseca and her husband Manny of Newburyport, Michael Dormady and his wife Pat of Duxbury and Thomas J. Dormady and his companion Denise of Duxbury and the loving “Grandma” to Joseph L. Fonseca of Amesbury, Wendy M. Fonseca of Newburyport, Kimberly R. Fonseca of Newton, Michael L., Dormady Jr. and Timothy Dormady both of Duxbury, Sean Dormady of Kingston, Andrew J. Dormady of Boston and Katie E. Dormady of Quincy. She was also the sister of the late Claire McDougall and the “Nana” and “Gigi” to ten great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Sunday 2:00-6:00 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15AM on Monday, prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.
