Barbara J. (Dill) Cook, of Hingham, MA, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Barbara was born in Concord, MA and raised in Gladstone, NJ. She graduated with a degree in Economics from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. Barbara began her career at the Transit Authority in New York City. During this time, she met the love of her life, John Cook. They married in August 1993 and relocated to London. John and Barbara traveled and enjoyed exploring London, but the highlights of their life overseas were the births of their daughters Caroline Grace in 1997 and Alison Clare in 1999.
Barbara and John moved back to the States in 2001 and settled in Hingham, MA. Barbara relished being a loving mother and wife. She was very active in serving the Hingham community as a member of the school PTOs, the Hingham School Committee, the Hingham Food Pantry, and the HHS School Council. She also privately supported many individuals in need.
Barbara’s passion for her friends, her advice, prayers and concerns for others filled so many with love and hope. She cared deeply for her family, friends and strangers. She was always the first to offer a helping hand and served as an inspiration and role model to many. She had a very strong sense of faith and willingly shared her faith with anyone in need.
In addition to her devoted husband, John, and her beautiful daughters, Caroline and Alison, Barbara is survived by her parents, Joan and Tom Dill of Gladstone, NJ; her sister, Mary Ellen Peters (Joe) of Basking Ridge, NJ; her brother, Steven (Randi) of Gladstone, NJ. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Dorothea Cook of Northport, NY; and in-laws Jennifer Borden (Joe), Bill Cook (Celie), Tom Cook (Annie) and Mike Cook (Jenine) and numerous nieces and nephews and a grandniece – all of whom she loved dearly.
Due to the current circumstances with the Coronavirus, a Memorial Mass to celebrate her life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
Barbara was a kind, gentle woman. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended), Inc., P.O. Box 690267, Quincy, MA 02269 or support pancreatic cancer research.
