Barbara G. Herlihy

Herlihy, Barbara G. (Gill) of Braintree, died December 21, 2017.

Barbara was born in Shrawn, Inish Mor, Co. Galway, Ireland. She came to the United States in her 20’s and settled down in Dorchester. She was a resident of Dorchester for many years where she raised her 8 children with her late husband, Thomas. She later moved to Quincy, Abington and most recently, Braintree. Barbara was very proud of her Irish heritage, the culture and the language. She was a devout Catholic and spent time in her older age at the Irish Pastoral Center. Barbara loved to dance, drink tea, and spend time with her sister Sara. She will be remembered for her magnetic personality, contagious smile and her ability to fill a room with laughter. She always brought joy to other people’s lives. Barbara will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Beloved wife of the late Thomas Herlihy. Cherished mother of Thomas J. Herlihy of Braintree, Mary Beth Whitcomb of Braintree, Kathleen Herlihy of Norway, ME, John Herlihy of Abington, Barbara Kelleher of Dorchester, Margaret T. Herlihy of Dorchester, Noreen Roux of Cranston, RI, and the late James Herlihy. Loving sister of Sara Donovan of Hingham. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Barbara may be made to Irish Pastoral Center, 15 Rita Road, Dorchester, MA 02124 or a charity of your choice.
