It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara D. Escoffier of Hingham, announce her passing on November 3rd, 2024, after a short illness.
Barbara leaves behind her daughter, Michelle Escoffier McKenna, her son-in-law Ryan McKenna, and three beloved grandchildren, Addison, Camden and Nolan of Hingham.
Barbara was born in Ithaca, New York on March 30, 1948, on the campus of Cornell University, where her father, Lt. Commander Jack Ducat was a graduate student. Her mother, Edna (Devine) Ducat, and her father, were both native New Yorkers. Barbara grew up in San Diego, California; Norfolk, Virginia, Lexington, Massachusetts and Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
She attended Hastings High School in Hastings, NY, graduating in 1966, Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio, graduating in 1970 and in 1971 she earned her master’s degree in library science at the University of Denver. Barbara married Alfred Escoffier in Denver in 1971, and moved to Burlingame, California where she lived for the next 40 years. Barbara worked first as a children’s librarian at the San Bruno Public Library (San Bruno, California), then the Millbrae Branch (San Mateo County Library). She then became Branch manager of the Foster City Library (Foster City, CA) for over 20 years, where she oversaw the construction of a new library branch for the community.
In 2021, Barbara moved her whole life to Hingham to be close to her grandchildren who she adored. Over the past serval years, she attended all the school events, concerts and watched her grandchildren grow. She was a devoted and loving “Grammy”.
Barbara “Grammy” Escoffier was greatly loved and will be forever missed.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 15th at 11AM at the Episcopal Parish of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St, Hingham. Followed by a burial at High Street Cemetery, 19 High Street Hingham.
