Barbara C. Hallsen

Hallsen, Barbara C. (Brownell) of Quincy, formerly of Weymouth succumbed to cancer on April 2, 2014.

Barbara fought and survived cancer for 20 years. Beloved wife of William F. Hallsen of Quincy.  Loving mother of William J. Hallsen and his wife Kathy of Weymouth, Christine M. Hathon and her husband Edward of Beverly, and Eric F. Hallsen and his wife Kristin of North Weymouth. Sister of Robert E. Brownell Ret. Army Master Sargent and his wife Barbara of South Weymouth and Honorable Thomas F. Brownell and his wife Margaret of Quincy.  Cherished grandmother of Jeffrey W. Hallsen and Skylar K. Hathon.  Barbara was the aunt of Karyn Brownell of Quincy, David Brownell of Weymouth and Brian Brownell of Abington.

Barbara was born in Boston, she grew up in Quincy and was a graduate of Quincy High School and attended Quincy College.  Barbara worked at MMA Financial Services in Boston for 10 years before retiring in 2009.  She was very talented in crafts, mastering quilting, rug hooking, sewing, and knitting. She was a member of the Metropolitan Yacht Club in Braintree where she enjoyed boating with her husband Bill. They loved to cruise along the shores of Quincy Bay and Hingham Bay where they enjoyed the sites and sounds of life on the water. Her family remembers her as a fantastic cook, baker and a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.  She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know her. Barbara was a kind, caring person who was always happy to do for others.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A celebration of life service will held in the Keohane Funeral Home, Tuesday at 9:15am prior to the Funeral service in Union Congregational Church, 74 Commercial Street, Braintree  at 10 AM.  Burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
