O’Rourke, Barbara A. (Engel) of Hull, died in the loving embrace of her family and friends on July 31, 2013, she was 69. Beloved wife of the late Vincent O’Rourke. Loving mother of Andrew O’Rourke and his wife, Dr. Elisabeth Broderick of Melrose. Daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Kilduff) Engel. Sister of Joseph Engel of Washington, DC, Christine Shaw of Milton, Anne Engel of Hull, David Engel of San Pedro, California, Harold Engel of Baku, Azerbaijan, Stephanie Landaal of La Mesa, Calif. Grandmother of Natasha O’Rourke of Melrose. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Barbara enjoyed the finer things in life with her family and friends including: extensive travel; fine dining; cooking; music; and the occasional Red Sox game. Barbara excelled at crossword puzzles (using only a pen) and dominated at Scrabble. Barbara recently retired after approximately twenty years working as a medical claims resolver. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who loved to be surrounded by her family. She will be sadly missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Hull at 10 AM. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Barbara O’Rourke Memorial Fund (nursing scholarship), Salem State University Foundation, 352 Lafayette Street, Salem, MA 01970.
