Barbara A. Ormond

Ormond, Barbara A. (Hall), 82, of Weymouth passed away peacefully on February 17, 2019 surrounded by all four of her children.

Barbara grew up in Dorchester and considered herself a “city girl”. After graduating from high school, she went to work at the John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston, where she met many lifelong friends.  She later married and moved with her husband to a homestead on the South Shore, complete with farm animals. In less than five years, Barbara gave birth to four children, whom she affectionately referred to as her “own kindergarten.”  And then at age 39, Barbara was suddenly widowed and forced to raise her four young children alone. She put aside her grief to work a series of jobs on assembly lines and in medical offices to try to make ends meet. She worked tirelessly to keep her family together and safe, and yet found ways to impart her values of honesty, respect and kindness for others as well as her great love of music, art and nature, to her children.

Though she never had a lot materially, Barbara quietly and consistently gave to people in need, including other young families.  For many years, she would buy groceries for the local food pantry every week and donate school supplies and Christmas gifts each year for children in need.  She joyfully expressed acts of kindness in gratitude for the kindness she had received from family, friends and neighbors. Barbara had the treasured gift of being an interested and compassionate listener and was beloved by people of all ages for her warmth, spirit and sharp humor. Many people, including her children, consider Barbara to be the strongest person they have ever met.  Barbara will be dearly missed by all who were touched by her beautiful life and her legacy of courage, tenacity and hope in the midst of great hardship.

Loving wife of the late Donald C. Ormond. Dearly beloved mother of Donny Ormond and his wife Jenn of Quincy, Timothy Ormond of Asheville, North Carolina, Mary Ann Ormond and her partner Lisa Rubini of Weymouth and James Ormond and his wife Makrina of Belmont. Loving sister of Donald Hall of Weymouth, Virginia “Ginny” Poeschl of Norwell and the late Douglas A. Hall. Cherished Nana of DJ, Shaun, Julia, Amelia, Max and Olivia. She is also survived by many dearly loved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
