Carl, Barbara A. (Collins) of North Quincy, died on Saturday November 12, 2011 surrounded by the family she adored, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, she was 73. Wife of the late Richard P. Carl and the late Paul Bennett. Loving mother of Barbara A. Foulsham and her husband John of Quincy. Devoted Grandmother of James C., John A. and Samantha J. Foulsham all of Quincy. Dear friend of the late Robert Schlager. Barbara grew up in South Boston and moved to Dorchester before settling in Quincy over 45 years ago. Her childhood brought struggles and challenges and although she was not rich with material possessions, she had a deep passion to improve the lives of those less fortunate. This continued throughout her life. Helping and caring for others was always a primary interest to Barbara. She worked for the City of Quincy for 22 years, which included the Quincy Community Action Center as well at the Atlantic Neighborhood Center and later Quincy Elder Services. Helping teen mothers through difficult times and bringing food at the holidays, to those in need, was a yearly tradition to her. Her love of people and her desire to help others was demonstrated through the many tasks she volunteered for. She was always there offering to driving them to doctors appointments, taking them food shopping or simply being there holding their hands through the difficult times. She had a kind heart and a gentle spirit that she generously shared with others. Barbara was a gregarious women who could make friends easily and strike up a conversation with anyone. She enjoyed her years at Quincy Elder Services and retired back in 2002, but remained active in the friendships she created throughout the years. The essence of her life was her family. They were the foundation of all that was truly important to her. She treasured them. Her passing leaves a void in their lives, but her passionate sense of family will be her legacy which will live on in their hearts forever. They are all grateful for all the blessings Nan brought into their lives. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8pm in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St. Wollaston. A Celebration of LIfe Service will be held in the funeral Home on Thursday morning at 9:15 prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, North Quincy at 10am. Burial in Milton Cemetery.
