Arthur Thomas Mclellan

Arthur (“Art,” “Artie”) Thomas McLellan (10.10.49-09.18.18), of Plymouth, formerly of Malden, Massachusetts, passed away on September 18, 2018 after an unexpected illness.

Arthur was born in Boston to Joseph and Jean McLellan. He graduated from Arlington High School before enlisting in the US Army. He served in Vietnam as a combat infantry in the 101st Airborne and rose to the rank of Specialist 4th Class. He was awarded several commendations for his service including the Air Medal for an excess of 25 hours of combat air assault, the Brave Eagle Coin for his contribution to the Screaming Eagle mission and his willingness to go “beyond the call of duty,” the Soldier’s Medal for the rescue of his fellow soldiers, and the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in 1974 and worked for the postal service until retirement. Arthur stayed active in the Veterans Administration (VA) for the rest of his life. He regularly attended a PTSD support group at the Brockton VA and as a certified Peer Specialist was quick to offer support to his military brothers and sisters adjusting to life after service. Arthur lived his last years in Plymouth where he enjoyed the ocean, his friends, and generously tipping wherever he went.

He had a daughter Shannon Meara who predeceased him, and he is survived by his friends, extended family, and his son Michael Meara of Stanardsville, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Artie’s name to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

Funeral services and burial will be private.
