Gillis, Arthur J. of Quincy August 2, 2006. Beloved husband of Alice M. (Fraher) Gillis. Loving father of A. Joseph “Joe” Gillis, Patricia A. DeThomaso, both of Quincy, Dianne DeThomaso of Weymouth, Robert “Mickey” Gillis of Hanover, Corinne Gillis of Weymouth and Debra Ferrari of Quincy. Brother of Shirley St. John of Easton and the late Evelyn Brosseau, Everett Gillis and Robert Gillis. Also lovingly survived by 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mr. Gillis also had and loved 2 late grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON, Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint John’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Visiting hours Friday 5-9 PM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. Mr. Gillis was a lifelong resident of Quincy. During WWII, he served in the Navy aboard the USS Pittsburgh in the Pacific. Later, he worked as a milkman for Whitings and White Brothers for 24 years, retiring in 1972. For many years, beginning in 1975, he tended bar at Darcy’s Pub in West Quincy. Through the years, he also worked in carpentry. Mr. Gillis was an avid reader, a major Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed walking Wollaston beach daily. Most importantly, he loved his family. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed. Donations in memory of Mr. Gillis may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 1309 Beacon St., Brookline, MA 02446.
