Artur Helmut Fickenwirth

August 11, 1933 – January 12, 2023

Artur Helmut Fickenwirth, 89, son of Carl Herrmann Arthur Fickenwirth and Minna Louise Müller died at his home in Hull, MA on January 12, 2023.  Helmut was born in Schwarzenberg, Germany.  Lured by the tales of Jack London, he emigrated to the United States in 1957 to live out his dream of seeing the Wild West.  After arriving in Jersey City, NJ, two key events occurred before he followed this dream:  He married Helga Übermuth, and his eldest son Gerhard was born.  Finally, in 1962 he was able to see the Wild West.  The young family traveled for eight weeks, from New Jersey to California and back.  The family made a second cross country trip in 1974, this time with two sons, Gerhard and S. Helmut.

Helmut began his career as a tool and die maker.  He felt this was not his calling and therefore pursued secondary education, eventually earning a Master of Science in International Business from Union College in Schenectady, NY.  This led to a career in management in various manufacturing operations.  Helmut and his wife, Helga, enjoyed hosting gatherings, both planned and impromptu, with friends and family at their home.  Helmut loved nature, mushroom hunting, classical music, reading and writing, (including writing his memoir).  He took great pride in and had great love for his family.

Helmut is survived by his wife, Helga (Übermuth) Fickenwirth; his sons and their wives, Gerhard and Katy Fickenwirth, Helmut and Ann Fickenwirth; his grandchildren, Laura Dyas (Samuel), Paul Fickenwirth (Emily), Sabina Fickenwirth, Peter Fickenwirth, and Max Fickenwirth; two great granddaughters, Sybil Dyas, and Madilyn Fickenwirth; and his sister Anneliese Schymick.

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 28 Cataract Ave., Dover, NH, Friday January 27^th at 11:00 AM.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wellspring Multi-Service Center in Hull or the Nature Conservancy.
