Armand Ruby, Jr.

Armand Ruby, Jr of Hingham, passed away on August 26, 2024. He was 91.

Armand was a devoted family man. He met the love of his life, Anne Marie, at the USO in Baltimore, MD, and they were married September 4, 1954. Following his Army service during the Korean War, he attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute on the G.I. Bill and earned a BS degree in Chemistry. Anne Marie and Armand had three children during his college years, and upon his graduation Anne Marie was awarded the PHT honor - Putting Hubby Through. Then, as always, Armand and Anne Marie were true partners in life.

Armand's early career as a chemist took him and his growing family to Sacramento, CA and Albany, NY. He moved the family to Enfield, CT in 1969 to work on the US space program at the Hamilton Standard division of United Aircraft, specializing in the design and function of the Space Shuttle backpack. Following a highly successful career there, where he was the recipient of honors and recognition for his work on NASA projects, in retirement he would enjoy wearing his t-shirt that said, “Yes, I AM a rocket scientist.”

In 1988 the family moved again, this time to Ocean Pines, MD, where Anne Marie could be closer to her family. Armand and Anne Marie were active in singing groups and developed a wide circle of friends. They loved the waterfront, swimming and boating, spending many wonderful years on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Armand bought a boat which he christened the “Anne Marie”, and his children and grandchildren have many fond memories of fishing on Assawoman Bay with Grandpa Ruby and water skiing behind the Anne Marie.

Armand and Anne Marie spent their last years at Linden Ponds, in Hingham, MA, where they again sang and participated in performances, sharing their love of music and entertainment with the community. Armand used his abundant technical and creative talents at the Linden Ponds TV station, and for many years volunteered as the lead in the tech booth in the Linden Ponds Performing Arts Center. He adopted new technology and developed beautiful visual backdrops for many shows in the PAC, where he also operated the sound and lighting equipment.

Most of all, Armand and Anne Marie loved their family. They raised five children, devoting themselves to all their sports, musical, and academic activities. Their love and support was so important to the family, which grew to include 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Their Catholic faith was their foundation, and a tremendous comfort to Armand in these last few years, after the loss of Anne Marie. This year they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage. They will be greatly missed by their family and friends.

Beloved husband of the late Anne Marie (Murphy) Ruby.
