Arlene M. (Norton) Coan

Arlene M. (Norton) Coan, of Quincy, died peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Hancock Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Quincy. She was 100.

Arlene was born in Somerville on June 12, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Leticia (Hagen) Norton.

Arlene was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence R. Coan, who died in 1974. At 70, she met Raymond Quirnbach, her beloved traveling companion, who died in 2023. She was the devoted mother of Patricia Kelly and her husband Michael of Pennsylvania, Paula Coan of Braintree, Nancy Coan Burke and her husband Stephen Burke of Braintree. Arlene was the loving grandmother of five and the loving great grandmother of six. Arlene was sister of the late Mildred (Donovan) Schmeir and 5 Norton brothers and 2 Donovan brothers. Arlene is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and members of the Quirnbach family Paul, Ray, Deb, and Ellen.

Anyone that knew our Arlene would know she always knew how to take every bit of zest out of life and use it. One of our favorite stories was back when she was moving her Squantum apartment, she offered all the movers a cold drink, as it’s a hot June day, she unboxed the Waterford crystal stemware and declared she had been looking at it in her mother-in-law china cabinet for 30+ years it was perfect time to use it!

She was someone who always made the best of every situation. We will miss her forever.
