Antionette "Anita" Curran

Antionette "Anita" Curran, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and cherished friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on October 8, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on March 28, 1944 in the Drimnagh neighborhood of Dublin, Ireland, Anita began her incredible journey across the ocean and arrived at Ellis Island, aboard the RMS Scythia in 1951, at the tender age of six.

After settling in Boston, Anita eventually met and fell in love with Thomas Curran of Roxbury. Together, they created a household filled with love and laughter as they raised six children in Quincy. Anita instilled the values of education, faith and community in her family, ensuring that Sunday mornings were reserved for mass at St. Joseph’s Church. Anita embodied the spirit of hard work and determination. She often juggled three jobs to provide for her family, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to their well-being. Her devotion extended beyond her own children to the entire neighborhood. Anita was a cheerleading coach for the Quincy Point Panthers for many years earning her way into the hearts of hundreds of young girls in the community. An avid walker, she embraced the outdoors in her 50s, routinely walking six to eight miles each day for more than two decades, proving that her spirit was as vibrant as ever.

Anitas’ love for her family was boundless. She had a zest for life and an infectious sense of humor. A clever prankster, she brought laughter to those around her with her quick wit and engaging spirit. She was known affectionately as Aunt "Nita," arriving at family gatherings with a trunk full of crafts and games to share. Her love for football was equally passionate; she was a lifelong Patriots fan and discovered a newfound admiration for Alabama football after being introduced to the Crimson Tide by her sister-in-law Jan. Anita spent the last ten years embracing the neighborhood kids at the bus stop, where she was known for waving colorful signs to celebrate their milestones, all while keeping a watchful eye on their safety.

In addition to the birth of her children, Terry, Denise, Karen, Christine, Thomas II, and Sean, her biggest achievement was becoming an American citizen. Anita Curran is survived by five children, five grandchildren, and preceded in death by her husband Tom and her beloved son Terry. She is also survived by her sisters, Gladys Schlager and Suzanne Rodrigues and her brother Karl Stenstrom. We remember her late parents, Peter Eric Stenstrom and Gladys Stenstrom (Colivet) and her late siblings, Peter, Erik and Norma Stenstrom, and many other family members and friends.

Anita's legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. Her memory will serve as a guiding light for her family and friends, reminding them of the importance of community, dedication, and joy in every step of life. Visitation services will be held on October 15, 2024, from 4-7PM at the Keohane Funeral Home in Quincy, followed by a Celebration of Life the next day at Keohane Funeral Home at 9:15AM and a Funeral Mass at 10AM at Saint Joseph's Parish, where her spirit will be honored as she soars into Heaven.
