Anthony G. Barbuto “Scout”, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a period of declining health on March 25, 2016. He was 90 years old.
Scout was born in Palermitti, Italy and came to Hingham with his family when he was 3 years old. He was educated in Hingham schools he served in the Navy during WWII. He worked in the Hingham and Quincy shipyards building war vessels in that era. As a young man he learned masonry from his father and carried on the family business that his father started in the 1920’s in Hingham. Scout is well known for his artistic masonary work and his ability to build anything. He resided for 67 years in the house he built himself with his wife and 4 children. Scout is well known for his spirit for fun and his generosity. In his youth he raced stock cars and rode a Indian motorcycle. In his later years he took up golf and played in many tournaments on the south shore and in Florida. He was a life long gardener and enjoyed playing guitar and singing country music. He spent many winters in Florida and made life long friends there.
Scout is survived by his wife Jessie (Warren) Barbuto, a son Daniel Barbuto and his wife Denise of Hingham, his three daughters and their spouses, Mary and Stephen Ferguson of Hollis NH, Susan and Mark Sievers of Cary, North Carolina, Donna And Jeffrey Conti of Hingham. He was well known as a extraordinary grandfather. And all babies loved him. He is survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grand children and his Bassett hound Abby.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass at St. Ann’s Church in Hull on Wednesday at 10am.
