Anne M. Packard

Anne Moriarty Packard, 95 years old, of Quincy, MA, formerly of Manchester, CT, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 9, 2019. Anne was the daughter of Thomas Moriarty and Catherine (Shea) Moriarty of County Kerry, Ireland. She grew up in Thompsonville, CT, and graduated in 1941 from Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA. Over the years, she was employed in a variety of positions at Connecticut General Insurance Company, Cheney Brothers and Southern New England Telephone. In 1964, she graduated from Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing and began a 30-year nursing career starting at Manchester Memorial Hospital. She was passionate about nursing, and a very compassionate caregiver, always putting her patients first. Indeed, she inspired her daughter, Sheila, to follow in her nursing footprints.

 

Anne was predeceased by her parents, her three brothers, Andrew, Thomas and John Francis Moriarty, and sister Mary (Moriarty) Brink. She was also predeceased by her husband, Charles D. Packard, her daughter Dr. Sheila Packard, and her infant son Joseph Packard.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Patricia Packard and her wife Lynne Rosenburg, as well as her son, Attorney Stephen Packard and his wife Eileen and their four children, Stephen Packard, Jr., Sheila (Packard) Williams and her husband Robert, James Packard, and Brian Packard. In addition, she leaves behind two great grandchildren, Moira and Robert Williams. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Katherine Fitzgerald, her dear friend Margaret Gill and several loving nieces, nephews and their spouses and children, for whom she was always “Aunt Toots.”

 

Anne was a great dancer her whole life, beginning as the lone female tap dancer in the “Jolly Thirteen” dancing troupe in Thompsonville back in 1930. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and loved family gatherings. She also loved Irish music, and any song by Frank Sinatra. There was nothing that she liked better than to have a party and a good laugh. During the past eight years while she lived in Quincy, MA she had many a great time. She was a regular at the Fox and Hound where everyone knew and loved her. She also had many laughs in Ogunquit, ME especially at the Front Porch.

 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA on Friday Jan. 11 from 4-8pm.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday morning at 9:15 an followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday January 12 in Holy Trinity Parish in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 237 Sea Street, Quincy at 10am.

Burial will take place on Monday, Jan. 14, at 11am in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, 1558 King St. Enfield, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Anne may be made to Norwell VNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
