Ann Marie (Egan) Gosse, of Whitman, formerly of Weymouth, died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 20, 2025. She was 84.
Marie was born in Boston on November 5, 1940, and was the daughter of the late James and Gladys (Olson) Egan. She was raised in Roxbury and attended local schools.
Marie, a one-of-a-kind woman with a fiery spirit and a heart that gave endlessly, passed away surrounded by love and laughter—the very things she built her life around.
Born into a bustling household as one of thirteen children, Marie knew from an early age how to hold her own. And hold her own she did—with flair, wit, and a famously colorful vocabulary that could make you laugh even in the hardest moments. She was a spitfire in the best sense: sharp, fiercely loyal, and unapologetically herself.
Marie was the queen of many things—bowling lanes, craft tables, and without question, the aisles of Macy’s. Shopping was her sport, and she wore her title with pride. Her home was always full of warmth, laughter, and the irresistible smells of her cooking. If you walked through her door, you were family—and likely handed a hot cup of coffee or a sandwich before you even had time to sit.
She was an excellent cook, a wonderful mother, and a woman who lived to do for others. Her greatest joy was her family. Her daughters learned honesty, strength, and the value of doing what's right from watching her live those principles every single day. She adored children—especially her own and her grandchildren—and would have moved mountains to protect and support them. Marie was always in their corner, their fiercest cheerleader, ready to defend them with unmatched passion and love.
Family vacations to Bermuda and Aruba were legendary moments she gave her family not just as getaways, but as memories that would last a lifetime.
Marie’s legacy is stitched into every story told, and every act of kindness passed on in her honor. She loved hard, gave freely, and lived well.
She will be missed more than words can say, but her spirit—bright, bold, and beautiful, will live on in all who loved her.
Marie was the beloved wife of the late James M. Gosse, who died in 1994. The two married on October 16, 1960, and together they shared 34 loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Linda M. Henry and her husband Brian of Quincy, Ann Marie Ricciarelli and her husband Peter of Whitman, and Lori A. Gosse of Plymouth. She was the loving grandmother of Sandra Carson and her husband Brian of Pembroke, Krystin Snell and her partner Scott of Pembroke, Tiffany Sinclair and her husband Wade of Wareham, Kayla Snell of Florida, Alexander Henry of Weymouth, Zachary Henry and his fiancée Ally Joseph of West Roxbury, Maxwell Henry of Florida, Leah Ricciarelli of Whitman, and Erin Ricciarelli and her partner Shane of Brookline. She was the loving great Nannie of six. Marie was the dear sister of Theresa LeBlanc and her late husband Dick of North Reading, Richie Egan of Somerville, and ten deceased siblings. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Janet Lynch of Bridgewater, Grace Lawson of Bridgewater, and Karen Maguire and her husband Dan of California, and many loving nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte. 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Monday, April 28, 2025, prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Ghost Parish, Whitman, at 10:30 AM. Cremation will follow.
Marie will be interred privately in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Marie's name to Norwell VNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
