Ann Dorothy Gamache (Fitzgibbons) age 74, born 7/14/47 passed away on Wednesday night 9/29/21 surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born to Marguerit (Rita) and James Fitzgibbons at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Brighton.
Ann spent her childhood living in Brighton, Jamaica Plain, and then Roslindale. She attended Saint Gabriel’s school in Brighton and graduated from Julie Billiad High School in the North End. Ann went on to work for the Equitable Insurance Agency in Boston after high school and worked there until she had her first child. Ann loved to shop in the Park Square shops and Filene’s basement with her co-workers on her lunch breaks. Once married Ann moved to Hingham where she grew her family, made a lovely home and formed a special community of friends. She spent most of the summer with her children at the Bathing Beach where she and the other mothers swapped stories and watched on as her children learned to swim and make friends. Ann loved to travel and made numerous extended trips to Ireland in the summer with friends where she fearlessly drove on the wrong side of the road when others may have taken a cab. She also made some very memorable trips to Italy with her husband Jack and an unforgettable trip with the grandchildren to Disney World in 2019. Ann loved to shop especially for her grandchildren, was an avid reader and a wonderful cook.
Ann was a woman who was filled with love and joy and she spread it out to everyone she met. She was always thinking of ways to make others happy and would go above and beyond with her kind gestures. Ann spent many years volunteering for father bills helping out with the boy scouts and worked as a para educator at Foster elementary school in Hingham for years. Her stories about the students were endless and her love for the children was evident in her dedication to them. Ann loved to do little extras at school like cooking special treats in the classroom for Chinese New Year and bringing in special craft activities from home. When she retired her love of helping others did not stop so she moved on to volunteering for the Massachusetts Commission for the blind where she was paired up with an individual of whom she would take shopping to appointments and even to the salon on a weekly basis. Ann loved what she was doing and they became fast friends. Ann had the gift of gab and could talk the ear off perfect strangers. She made everyone she talked to feel special and seemed to know just what to say at the right moment. Ann was the clearing house for all family information and could remember every name, birth date, story and special event of everyone in her family. She was always there cooking meals and dropping things off to family and friends when she thought they could use a little boost.
Ann married John Gamache in St. John’s West Roxbury 1970. They were married for 51 years. She was the loving mother to Matthew and Peter and a doting Nanni to her grandchildren Samantha and Dexter Gamache. Ann lived for her children and grandchildren and never tired of doing special events. She volunteered for every activity Matthew and Peter were involved in as children and continued the same energy with her grandchildren. Ann was like another parent to Sammy and Dexter and constantly had a plan to take them on outings like plays, the library, craft hours and walks. She loved cooking and crafting with the kids and did not waste one single minute. She will be greatly missed by her family and to all of the people whose lives were brightened by her presence.
Ann is survived by her husband Jack Gamache, her sister Eileen (Fitzgibbons) and her husband Bill Honen, her son Matthew Gamache and his wife Januce, her son Peter Gamache his wife Kathryn and their children Samantha and Dexter Gamache. She is preceded by her parents Marguerit (McNeil) and James Fitzgibbons, her brother Joseph Fitzgibbons and brother Patrick Fitzgibbons.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday 3-5 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM followed by a funeral home service at 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ann to Disabled American Veterans, State House, Room 546, Boston, MA 02133.
