Andrew J. Julian, Jr.

Andrew J. Julian, Jr. of Hingham, died on December 13, 2020 surrounded by his family,  after a courageous battle with cancer. The beloved husband of  Evelyn (Grabau)  Julian of Hingham. Devoted father of Andrew J. Julian, III and Christian Julian both of Hingham, Son of the late Andrew J. Julian, Sr. and Alice P. (McGeoghegan) Julian. Brother of  Pamela Julian of Brookline, Michelle Julian of Watertown and Meredith Boudreault of Framingham.  Son in law of Amelia Grabau of Newton. Drew is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Drew was born in Brookline, Mass and lived there until he was 9 years old when he moved to Hingham. He attended Hingham schools and graduated from Hingham High School in 1973. He was a great athlete playing baseball and hockey where he served as the captain of the hockey team. After graduating, he was given the opportunity to do a postgraduate year at Tabor Academy. Drew enjoyed his time at Tabor and made many great life-long friends. After graduating from Tabor, Drew went on to Concordia University in Montreal, Canada to play hockey. As the only American on the hockey team, he would often tell stories about the competitive nature of the French-Canadians he played with. Sometimes the competitiveness would be taken off the ice where they would cut the laces on his skates before practice. Naturally, Drew wouldn’t put up with that so, he decided he would hide their fake teeth, especially on date nights. He loved his time in Montreal and had great experiences including the opportunity to drive the traveling bus during the 1976 Summer Olympics for the men’s US Basketball team.

Drew loved his sisters very much and was extremely protective of them. No man was ever good enough for his sisters. He always tried to mentor them and provide “big brother” advice. Growing up with 3 sisters and one bathroom is a hell of a way to learn patience. He met the love of his life, Evelyn when her girlfriend set them up, even though he didn’t know he was being set up. They hit it off immediately and after two weeks of dating, he was driving down the street in her hometown of Newton and pulled up in front of her church and told her that he would wait for her to walk down the aisle in a white dress. On October 19, 1991, Drew proposed on the 18th hole of Blue Hills Country Club by putting the ring in the hole and 10 months later they were married. They recently celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary this past August 29th.  Drew had 2 amazing sons, Andrew III, and Christian. He was so incredibly proud of his boys for their athleticism and more importantly for the content of their character, work ethic and love of family. He loved coaching his boys and all their friends in any sport. Whether it was basketball, baseball, or hockey everyone could hear him from the field or the stands. Coaching was a passion of his. He would be up all-night creating roster cards for every team that is boys played on. Making sure he had each player’s name spelling, jersey number and positions. He would even put the final touch of laminating these arts and crafts he worked so hard on. Some players of his may remember some of his chants he would make them do. Bringing out an entire team to the outfield to get everyone juiced up before a big game and maybe add a little intimidation in the opponent’s eyes. 

Not only did Drew have a keen sense of style but he always loved to make people laugh. It seemed like his level of fashion was always ahead of everyone else’s before popularity struck. He had great stories and one-liners that would make everyone laugh and smile. He would speak to anyone and everyone. It didn’t matter what you did or where you were from, he just wanted to make you laugh. He made friends everywhere he went and treated everyone equally. 

Drew loved to help his friends. He was very loyal and would do anything to help them be successful in their careers and in life. Drew helped many friends and clients on how to manage their bosses, get a raise, how to interview for a job, and how to manage family life on top of all of it. 

To say Drew was an avid golfer is an understatement. His birthday tradition was a nice 36-hole round at Hingham’s finest South Shore Country Club. He loved the game so much he taught his boys how to play. They saw how passionate he was about the game and so their love grew for it, as well. Golf was his therapy, entertainment, and business all in one. If Drew wasn’t home, we always knew where he was – the golf course!

Drew was a man of many talents. A bartender, a comedian, a special education teacher, a professional driver, a son, a father, a salesman, and an entrepreneur just to name a few. He began his extensive sales career with NEC, where he traveled the country and lead US sales in his late 20s. From NEC he had various sales and client relationship roles where he was met with success, but more importantly where he met so many amazing life-long friends. Drew ran his own company, LinkSource, for over 15 years where he supported his clients in talent and acquisition management. While being a one-man band he hustled to build something for his family. His passion and work ethic clearly trickled down to his two boys who always look up to him. While at, CohnResnick, his work ethic did not stop and he won salesman of the year, 5 years in a row. We were so proud of him for all his hard work and resilience. Most recently he had the opportunity to work alongside one of his best friends and business partners, as the VP of Sales at Brush Hill Tours, Plymouth & Brockton Transportation company. He loved the people he worked with and felt extremely lucky to hold the position he did.  Drew had a generous spirit. He loved to plan and participate in community service events. He and some of his great friends in the financial services industry helped found the beginnings of the Expect Miracles Foundation, Mutual Funds Against Cancer. He sat on the board for years and helped put together tee times for the golf outings that would eventually raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to help support cancer research. This was one of his favorite events. Drew also loved to work with the folks at the Greater Boston Food Bank. From volunteering to helping network to raise money for any equipment the organization needed. He was so proud to be apart of these great organizations.  Drew leaves a legacy of what life is all about love, family, golf, and doing it all “while we’re young.” 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 3-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 392 Hanover St., Hanover, MA 02339. Hanover,  at 11 AM. Burial in Hingham Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Drew may be made to his Go Fund Me account https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-the-julian-family
