Alma M. Driscoll

Driscoll, Alma M. (Roche) lifetime Weymouth resident, passed away January 27, 2013 at the age of 102.

Alma was a graduate of Weymouth High School & Bridgewater State College. At the time of her passing Alma was the oldest Alumni of Bridgewater State College. Alma retired in 1981 after 49 years teaching in Weymouth. She began teaching at the former Nevin School & retired from the former Bicknell Junior High School. Alma wrote periodicals on teaching at the Junior High level & was active in women’s teachers rights. The library of the Chapman School was dedicated & named for Alma.Alma was a daily communicant & very active member of St. Francis Xavier Parish. She was a late member of the Weymouth Catholic Club & Weymouth Teachers Assoc.

Daughter of the late Thomas & Susan Roche. Beloved wife of the late Wallace T. Driscoll. Cousin of  Bernard H. Merten married to Joan of Weymouth, Mary E. McCoy married to Fred of GA., Michael “Joe” Merten of Weymouth, Philip M. Merten of Weymouth & the late  Robert E. Merten & John F. Merten. Alma is also survived by her many friends & former students.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 11 AM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rockland.
