Allen Lee Lorenz, age 74, passed unexpectedly on the evening of January 20th.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Joan, and his daughters Nicole and Rachel. Son in law Paul and grandchildren Ashley, Tyler and Andrew are also missing him. He is predeceased by his grandson Nate.
He was a good man. Kind, curious, generous and determined. He was a dreamer of the best sort. He made sure we all knew how much he loved us and how proud we made him.
From modest beginnings, Al served in the Marines, the Navy and the Airforce National Guard. He was the first in his family to attend college, then graduate school, becoming an orthodontist. Thousands of South Shore residents are smiling their smiles thanks to him. He retired in 2020, with Rachel following in his very proud footsteps.
An infamous storyteller, he could be counted on to embellish every tale. He took real joy in the accomplishments of others and specialized in making everyone around him feel special. He supported after school programs, traveled to the Middle East with Doctors Without Borders, gave discounted braces to almost every teacher and first responder who walked though his doors. He gave a kidney to a nephew. There was no end to his generosity.
He loved to cook, to cuddle all the animals he accidentally acquired over the years, and feed all of the birds that call his yard home. He loved fantasy novels and crappy airport thrillers. He had a fondness for soft sweaters and he gave great hugs.
He left the world a better place than he found it. He leaves behind a giant and unfillable hole in the lives of those he loved and who loved him. We were so very lucky to have had him in our lives. We weren’t ready for him to go.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Allen may be made to Bartlett Recreation Department/ B.A.R.A
