Alice J. Vance

Vance, Alice J. (Pomeroy) of Weymouth, passed away on June 22, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was 88.

Born in Boston in 1936, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Pomeroy (Zellner). A graduate of Dorchester High School, Alice's journey through life was marked by her unwavering spirit and the joy she found in the simple pleasures of life. She wed Robert W. Vance and the two were in married for 30 years before his passing in 1992.

For 25 years, Alice dedicated her professional life to State Street Bank, where her diligence and commitment earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Beyond her work, Alice's home was a welcoming haven, known for its open door and the aroma of her world-famous brownies—a delightful contrast to her self-admittedly less successful culinary experiments. Her passion for service was matched only by her love for travel and the arts. She was an avid traveler who reveled in the majestic beauty of National Parks, felt the thrill of Broadway shows like Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables, and cherished her moments of independence and adventure in places like Las Vegas, Bermuda, and Foxwoods, where she enjoyed the bright lights and excitement of slot machines.

Alice's zest for life was evident in her many interests. She was a voracious reader, a connoisseur of World War II history, and a proud celebrant of her Jewish heritage on her mother’s side. Her fascination with the era's history, particularly the Nazis and their impact on the Jews, was a testament to her deep compassion and empathy for the suffering of others.

In her later years, even as her pace slowed, Alice's indomitable spirit never waned. Her sons, who took loving care of her, can attest to her continued passion for life and her enduring love for those around her. Alice's legacy is one of kindness, passion, and love—a beacon of light for all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Alice J. Vance will be remembered as a loving and kind soul, a passionate woman who lived her life with an open heart, always ready to help someone in need. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her generosity and warmth.

Cherished mother to R. Christopher Vance of Weymouth and Michael Walsh of Malden. Sister in law to Judith E. Vance of New York. Aunt to Steven, Barbara, Paula and Alice, all of Florida. Predeceased by her sister Louise Drake.
