Alice M. Hale (McLaughlin) of Quincy, passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 7, 2023. She was 97 years old.
Born in Boston she was the daughter of James D. and Alice McLaughlin (Higgins). Alice attended elementary school at St. Margarets in Boston and was a graduate of Dorchester High for Girls. She then went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree at Boston Teachers College. After graduating she worked as a 3rd grade teacher in the Boston School system until her marriage to the late William F. Hale Jr. Alice will always be remembered as an eternally positive and independent woman, a supporter and confidant to her friends and a loving, caring mother to all members of her family.
Alice worked her way through college during the 1940s at a time when it was uncommon for a young woman to do either. Her fondest memories were of the summers spent working as a waitress at a Spring Lake N.J. resort serving three meals a day, seven days a week. Each free moment between seatings was spent running to the beach and then back just in time to serve the next meal. She spoke often about the occasional free night where she and her friends would escape to the local dance hall and dance the night away.
Loving mother of Robert E. Hale and his wife Janette of Quincy; Barbara Hale Walters and her husband William of VA, Richard D. Hale and Pat DeLoia of FL, Susan Hale Ciulla and her husband Joseph of Wareham, David Hale of Provincetown, and Susan Powers Hale of Provincetown. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer Walters Chandler and her husband John of VA; Brendan and Eric Hale of Quincy and great grandchildren Jack and Max Chandler of VA. Preceded in death by her siblings Robert J. McLaughlin and Mary R. Prince. Alice will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends and her Cape Cod Family the Youmans, Powers and Adilettos.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church (currently Divine Mercy), Quincy at 10 AM. Burial to follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
