Alfred A. Smith

Alfred A. Smith, 94, of North Weymouth, passed away peacefully at home December 20, 2015. Al worked for many years at Quincy Shipyard and Hingham Shipyard before becoming a general contractor for Cities Service Corp. His enthusiasm for learning was exceptional. He was self-taught in everything from construction, repairing electronics, to using the Internet and skillfully playing the piano. He was truly a jack-of-all-trades. He was a master mason with the Delta Lodge, Braintree for 59 years. A 32 Scottish Rite mason of the Valley of Boston, A longtime Shriner member of the South Shore Shriners and Aleppo Shriners, Wilmington, Ma. He always had an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on for everyone. He will be remembered for his love of his family and friends, His sense of humor and quick wit.

Beloved husband of 73 years to Helen (Kerrigan) Smith of North Weymouth. Devoted father of Karen Dowell of North Weymouth, Tracey Poutre and her husband James of Lakeville and the late Ronald Smith. A brother, Richard Smith of North Weymouth, Father-in-law of Marjorie Smith of Douglas. Cherished grandfather of Kimberly Dodd, Bradley Smith, Robb Dowell and the late David and Ricky Smith. Great-grandfather of Kaleigh, McKenzie and Zachary.  Sister-in-laws Virginia Smith, Pat Smith and Jean McCaffery.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
