Courtney, Alexander F. Jr. of Squantum , died on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 after a brief illness. The beloved husband of the late Ruth A. (Mc Hugh) Courtney. Cherished father of Karen Gallup of Squantum and Paul Courtney of Hull. Brother of Mary McFarland of Rockland. Devoted grandfather of Steven Marr of Squantum and Tyler Alexander of Denver, CO. A lifelong Quincy resident, Mr. Courtney worked as a plumbing maintenance supervisor at the Naval Air Station for more than 35 years retiring back in 1978. He served in the United States Army from 1943 until 1946. A member of the American Legion Nickerson Post 382 in Squantum. After his retirement, Mr. Courtney also volunteered as the maintenance man at the Nickerson Post. A past member of the Star of the Sea – Holy Name Society bowling league. Mr. Courtney will be remembered as a proud United States Army veteran, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who was always there supporting his family. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Friday 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 10:30 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of Mr. Courtney may be made to The American Legion – Nickerson Post 382, 20 Moon Island Road, North Quincy, MA 02171.
