Alexander D. “Sandy” Visser

Alexander Daniel Visser, 85, of Quincy and formerly Hyde Park, passed away on August 6th 2017, after a long and hard fought illness.

Sandy, also sometimes known as Alex, was born on January 8th, 1932 to Thomas and Mary Chisholm Visser in Boston, and grew up in Jamaica Plain and Hyde Park, where he lived most of his life. He attended school in Boston, and was a graduate of English High School, and Boston State Teacher’s College in 1954. It was there that he met the love of his life, June McLellan Visser; they were married two days after their graduation, and shared 63 years together.

Sandy was a retired Boston Public School teacher, a veteran, and an avid amateur photographer. Throughout his life, he had a keen interest in history, current events, music, and many diverse subjects.  He was always delighted by a good conversation and was known for his wit and humor. In his later years, he enjoyed continuing his lifelong quest to learn and research via the internet.

Above all else, he was greatly devoted to his wife and family.

Sandy is deeply missed by his wife, June; his children, Rona Shriner and husband William of Maine, Roderick Visser and wife Beth of North Carolina, Malcolm Visser and wife Sharon of Virginia; his 8 beloved grandchildren, Ariel, Hayley, Austin, Lindsay, Graham, Cameron, Kyle and Rachel; his sister, Elizabeth Wilson of Maryland; and a great many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers Edwin and Franklin.

Services will be held at the Keohane Funeral Home in Quincy, with a wake and visitation Friday August 11th from 6pm to 8pm, and a funeral service on Saturday August 12th at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.
