Mina, Abigail “Gayle” (Giagrande) of Weymouth passed away unexpectedly on December 9, 2023 at the age of 82.
Gayle was born in Quincy to the late Anthony and Adora (Pantano) Giagrande. She grew up as a young child in Braintree on the Pantano Farm, now Braintree South Shore Plaza until school age. She then moved to Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School in 1960. Gayle was a survivor. She went on to become a nurse, graduating from Lemiel Shattuck Hospital School of Nursing and Northestern University with her RN, Bachelors and Masters Degree in Nursing. She dedicated her nursing career to South Shore Hospital as the Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit Educator and and Supervisor for 45 years. She was also a nursing professor of education for 45 years at Quincy College, where she nurtured new nursing students. Her life’s passion was for nursing and education. She was always the first to reach out to help others.
Beloved wife of 59 years to the late Vincent Mina, Sr. They met in the Pet Department of the old Quincy Grant’s in high school, married, and resided in Weymouth for 61 years, where they raised their three children. They traveled over the years, vacationed in Cape Cod and had a Vermont Tree farm and a maple syrup business.
She was the mother of Diane Mina of Hull, Vincent Mina Jr. and his wife Lewann of Quincy, and Deborah Mina of Weymouth. Gayle was the proud grandmother to John and Michael, Antonio and his partner Ashley, Ralph, Timothy and his wife Kacey, and Scott and his wife Sarah. Great grandmother to Giabella, Charlotte, Lily, and Brady. Dear sister of Jean Giagrande. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Gayle was devoted to her family and friends. She loved family holidays and socialization. Her greatest joy of late was spending time with her great granddaughter Gia. Her love for her late pets and Snickers brought her much comfort and joy.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, December 28th from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
In Gayle’s memory the family will be presenting a Quincy College Nursing Student Scholarship. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gayle may be to St. Jude, stjude.org/joinus to donate online or PO Box 50, Memphis TN 38101-9929.
