Elizabeth D. Gardner

Gardner, Elizabeth D. (Warmington) of Weymouth, died August 17, 2017.

Betty was born in Quincy to the late Harold and Dorothy Warmington. She was a sweet and kind woman, who loved to travel and meet new people. Betty was very proud that she had five educated grandchildren because education and learning were so important to her. After high school, Betty worked at the Hingham Shipyard as a trained Draftsman. She worked for years at Harvard and was an assistant to Psychologist BF Skinner as well as Dr. Edwin Land, founder of Polaroid. Betty worked with Georg von Békésy, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1961 for his studies and publication of his 1960 book “Experiments in Hearing” in which she produced all the figures. Up until she retired, she worked for the Massachusetts Transit Authority. After Betty retired, she continued her education at Massasoit Community College where she received three Assoicate Degrees in Computers Science, Fine Arts and Travel and Tourism. She loved Reebok sneakers and made sure all members of her family always had a fresh pair.  She traveled everywhere and anywhere, loved theater, the Boston pops, Tanglewood, museums, and her Episcopalian faith. Betty was a peaceful and content woman who loved her devoted son, her only child, until his passing in 2010. She also loved Victorian English novels and was an avid reader. She was smart, kind, generous, thoughtful and everyone who knew her loved her immediately.

Beloved wife of the late Granville Gardner. Loving mother of the late Paul Gardner and his wife Marcia Gardner of Nashua N.H. Cherished sister of the late Joanne Peoples. Proud grandmother of Amy Gardner, Sara Gardner, Cassie Burns and her husband Ethan Burns, David Gardner and Michael Gardner, and great grandmother of Lucas Henry Burns (Cassie and Ethan’s son).
