Olga I. Cartwright

Cartwright, Olga I. (Zaruba) born in Norwood, from Pocasset and Venice, FL, died December 8, 2015.

Olga’s passing represents the end of an era. First generation daughter of Lithuanian immigrants, Olga grew up in Norwood, MA under the guidance of her parents Olga Yesikanis and Andrew Zaruba and the loving tutelage of her grandmother “Mumeet”. Although an educated woman (Framingham State College class of 1952) with a distinguished career as a registered dietician, it was her talents as both an artisan and hostess extraordinaire that set her apart and compelled all she knew to love her. If you were lucky enough to enter Olga’s home, you were invariably met with warmth, conversation, and too much delicious food and drink. Her home was appointed with mementos collected on her world travels along with chairs, paintings, sculptures and nicknacks she made herself. She loved to decorate, set a perfect table (complete with name cards and a posted menu), and make people feel at home. She also enjoyed playing bridge, mahjong, golf, tennis, and making crafts.

Olga’s family was the center of her life. Her husband Wilbur Lee of 63 years, her son Richard and her daughters Bonnie and Nancy meant the world to her. As her family grew, Olga’s ideal day undoubtedly involved her husband, children and their spouses, and grandchildren Brian, Michael, Erin, and Shannon O’Connell, Daniel Cartwright and Emily Garr, Zhi and Madeline Howes, and great grandchildren Roysin O’Connell and George Garr all gathered at her house for a holiday meal served with lots of fun and laughter.

Although you are gone, we know in your passing the hospitality in heaven just stepped up a notch. :-) You will remain at our tables and in our hearts forever. Sweet dreams.
