Frank Perkins, Jr.

Perkins, Frank, Jr. of Hingham passed away October 15 after a long illness. 

He was the eldest son of Frank K (Noted  Boston Herald & Traveler’s Bridge Expert) and B’deau Perkins and was born in  Dec. 1, 1926, raised and lived in Newton Corner for over 70 years.  Beloved brother Charles  A. in Bourne and a sister Anne Gangi in Camp Hill, PA and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews as well.

He graduated from Newton High School in 1945; enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed on the USS Pasadena in the Pacific. Upon on his discharge he attended Boston University General College, transferred to Harvard University and graduated with a BA in 1951 and a Master’s (Education) degree in 1952. He obtained a Master’s in English at Boston College and later attended for a year advanced studies at Oxford University and also a year at Cambridge University both in England. He was always proud that he was able to attend some of the finest universities in the World.

He first taught at St. Paul’s Prep School in New Hampshire, then at Fountain Valley Spring Prep School in Colorado and later at the United States Military Prep School in Newberg, NY for a number of years. The USMA was moved to Virginia and he returned to Newton and began a long career at Quincy College where he was the head of the English Dept. and  retired from there in the late 1990’s as –  Professor Emeritus.

After his retirement he lived at the River Bay Club in Quincy for about 10 years and the last two years at Renaissance Gardens in Hingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Frank K. Perkins, Jr. Memorial Trust at Quincy College, 1250 Hancock St., Quincy, MA 02169.

At the request of Frank’s family all services were private.
