In the Community: Second Annual Coat Drive

November 5, 2013

It’s hard to believe it’s getting to be that time of year again, but the Holidays are upon us! During this time of year, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. But while we reflect on what we are thankful for, let’s not forget about those things we sometimes take for granted.

Here at Keohane, we take pride in our social responsibility and support our local communities however we can. This year marks our second annual Coat Drive, and we encourage your participation.

According to the 2010 Census, 1 in 5 children live in households whose earnings fall below the poverty level in the United States. It is also said that an estimated 671,850 Americans experience homelessness on any given night. As quoted on OneWarmCoat.org,“Health experts report that even a 2-degree drop in body temperature results in reduced heart rate, loss of coordination, and confusion. Adults cannot work effectively and children find it difficult to learn. For most, a warm coat solves the problem. But, for the now nearly 15% of Americans living in poverty, a warm winter coat is a budget extra.”

Last year, we were thrilled with the generosity shown, and we surpassed our initial goal of receiving 250 coats. This year, we continue to have faith in our communities and are confident we can receive even more! You can drop off any gently worn coat, for a child or an adult, to these locations:

  • Keohane Funeral Home: 785 Hancock Street, Quincy
  • McDonald Keohane Funeral Home: 809 Main Street, Weymouth
  • Pyne Keohane Funeral Home: 21 Emerald Street, Hingham

We will be working with several local organizations to make sure all coats are distributed to our neighbors in need. So go through your closets and see what you can donate today!
