Free Tax Preparation Help for Seniors from AARP Foundation Tax-AideFebruary 15, 2016
AARP Foundation is providing free tax assistance and preparation designed especially for taxpayers fifty years or older with low- to moderate-income through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program – the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service, giving special attention to the older population. Taxpayers do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this service.
“Many of us may not enjoy filing our taxes but for vulnerable seniors it is critical that if they are eligible for a refund that they receive it so they can pay for basic living expenses,” said AARP Foundation Vice President of Tax-Aide Lynnette Lee-Villanueva. “For nearly 50 years, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has provided free tax assistance to millions of low- and moderate-income taxpayers. Our hard working IRS-certified volunteers offer peace of mind during an already stressful tax season to those who need it the most.”
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers are trained and IRS-certified each year to ensure their knowledge of revisions to the U.S. tax code. In 2015, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide’s 35,000 volunteers provided 2.6 million people with free tax help. Taxpayers who used AARP Foundation Tax-Aide received $1.3 billion in income tax refunds and more than $250 million in Earned Income Tax Credits (EITCs). This is a free service – there’s no fee, no sales pitch for other services, and AARP membership is not required.
Offered in conjunction with the IRS, the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has helped nearly 50 million taxpayers prepare and file their taxes since 1968. Almost four out of five people who turn to AARP Foundation Tax-Aide are 60 or older with low to moderate incomes.
